Insight Enterprises: where they are strong
Insight Enterprises is an established enterprise IT distributor with capabilities that overlap with Solaris Wireless across several engagement types. The list below reflects Insight Enterprises's genuine strengths; we recommend buyers consider both vendors in any engagement that touches their core capability set.
- Public company (NASDAQ: NSIT), $9B+ revenue, founded 1988. Established global IT solutions integrator.
- Strong managed services portfolio (Insight Managed Cloud, Insight Connected Workforce) for organisations wanting outsourced IT operations.
- Global delivery footprint with offices across North America, Europe and Asia-Pacific.
- OEM partnership depth with Microsoft (Gold Partner), Cisco, Dell, HPE, Adobe, AWS, and most major enterprise software vendors.
- Modern Workplace consulting practice for organisations standardising on Microsoft 365, Teams, Intune.
- Existing public-sector contract vehicles including SLED and federal civilian.
Where Solaris Wireless differentiates
Solaris Wireless is institutional-only and specialised on the device-supply layer. The capability set below is where the engagement profile differs from broader enterprise IT distribution.
- MVNO and operator programmes. Insight serves enterprise IT but does not run MVNO subscriber handset launches. Solaris has supplied Republic Wireless, Pacific MVNO operators (including operators serving the Cook Islands), and emerging-market carriers with custom-OS-flashed, SIM-locked, carrier-branded handsets shipped direct-to-subscriber in retail packaging.
- Custom Android OS at scale. Insight does not flash custom Android One images, install carrier splash banners, or pre-load operator-specific apps. Solaris does this as the default for MVNO and kiosk engagements (the Ritual.co programme is close to 10,000 units of custom-flashed hardware).
- Specialist and EOL component sourcing. Insight's catalogue covers current OEM hardware. Solaris's 40+ specialist and end-of-life SKU sourcing for body camera manufacturers, medical device OEMs and research institutions across Europe and Asia is a different engagement category.
- Starlink wholesale distribution. Solaris distributes Starlink Standard, Business and Maritime kits at wholesale to commercial maritime operators, oil and gas, and government. Insight does not currently operate as a Starlink wholesale distributor.
- ITAR/EAR controlled hardware and 72-hour rapid response. Solaris's pre-cleared inventory at five global supply nodes for U.S. Government and allied-nation rapid-response programmes is a specialist capability; Insight's federal practice is broader-spectrum IT.
Capabilities both vendors cover
- TAA-compliant device procurement for federal civilian and defence
- Apple Business Manager and Microsoft Intune integration for enterprise device fleets
- Dell, Lenovo, HP, Apple OEM commercial-channel relationships
- Direct-to-employee laptop fulfilment with asset tagging
- Compliance documentation for regulated industries
When to use which
Use Insight Enterprises when: the engagement requires Modern Workplace transformation, Microsoft 365/Teams/Intune deployment with consulting wrap, broader managed services (cloud, security operations, application modernisation), or integrated multi-OEM enterprise IT projects.
Use Solaris Wireless when: the engagement is device-specific with MVNO custom OS, kiosk-mode flashing, government rapid response, ITAR/EAR controlled supply, Starlink wholesale, EOL specialist sourcing, or direct-to-end-user/direct-to-subscriber fulfilment across multiple regions.

How to evaluate both vendors
For institutional buyers running a procurement evaluation, the practical recommendation is to scope both vendors against the specific engagement. Submit the same RFI to both with: device specification and quantity, MDM platform, custom-provisioning needs (custom OS, SIM lock, branding), geographic distribution, compliance constraints (TAA, NDAA, FIPS, ITAR/EAR, HIPAA), target lead time, and contract vehicle preference. Compare written proposals side by side. For a sample order, both vendors typically support 50-100 unit pilot batches before scaling.
Solaris Wireless responds within one business day with pricing, lead time and contract proposals. For broader vendor comparison context, see Zero-Touch Android deployment and bulk iPhone enterprise procurement.
